How this works

This is not a legal document yet. Ksports is in a small private beta. Proper Terms and a Privacy Policy — reviewed by a lawyer, and written for a product that holds photographs of children — come before it is opened up any further. Until then, here is plainly what it does.

What it stores

The photos and videos you add, exactly as your phone gave them to us — we don’t re-encode or shrink them. A small still frame from each video, so a team’s page loads without downloading everything. A smaller copy of each video, so it plays on a phone signal.

Your mobile number, which is how you sign in — there is no password. A name, if you give one. The players on your team’s roster: a first name, a last name and a jersey number, added by the people on that team.

Who can see it

Only people who are on the team. Teams are private. There is no public directory, no search, and no way to browse teams — a team page shows a stranger the same “not found” it shows for a team that does not exist.

You get in by being invited. Anyone on a team can invite someone, and an invite link works for whoever holds it — so a link forwarded to someone else lets that person in too. An admin can reset the link, which stops the old one working for everybody who has it.

The same is true of a shared moment: sending one photo or clip to somebody who isn’t on the team invites them to the team, and they will see everything on it. The app says so before you send it.

What a link preview shows

When you send a link, chat apps fetch it to draw a preview. That preview shows the team’s name and colour, and nothing else — never a photograph, never a child’s name or number. Everything else needs you to be signed in and on the team.

Getting something removed

The person who added a photo or video can delete it, and so can a team admin. Deleting really deletes: the original, the still frame and the small copy all go.

If you want something removed and can’t do it yourself — or you want an account closed — ask whoever runs your team, or reply to whoever invited you. There is no self-serve account deletion yet, and that is one of the things the real Terms will have to be clear about.

What it does not do

It does not sell anything to anyone, show advertising, or use your photos to train anything. There is no face recognition and no automatic tagging — every tag on this product was typed by a person on your team.

It is not encrypted end to end, and it is run by one person on one server. Those are real limits and they are said here rather than left to be assumed.

Children

This product exists to hold pictures of children playing sport, added by the adults around them. That is the whole point of it and it is also the reason the paragraph at the top of this page matters: the rules for that are not something to guess at, and they are being written properly.
